Description
This field records the postcode of the students location during term time
Notes

This field is required to be returned for full-time students who spend any time in attendance at the provider during the reference period i.e. they are not dormant, on a placement, studying abroad or distance learning for the entirety of the reference period.

The Student may therefore be in coverage in some reference periods and not others if they, for example, take a placement for part of their Engagement.

This is not necessarily the correspondence address provided by the student.

Where students are staying in a hall of residence, a generic postcode for that hall of residence can be returned for all relevant students.

It is expected that in many cases this information would change throughout a students Engagement.

If the full postcode is not known, the outward part of the postcode can be returned. For example, returning only the outward GL50 rather than the full postcode GL50 1HZ.

If the postcode is not known, the default value of ZZ99 9ZZ should be returned.

It is expected that in most cases a full postcode will be provided.

All postcodes should be returned using upper-case letters, for example GL50 3DA.

A typical postcode such as GL50 3DA would be coded with a blank in the fifth character position. A postcode such as B1 6SR would have a blank in position 3. The part of the postcode before the space is known as the outward part of the postcode and can be 2, 3 or 4 characters long. The part of the postcode after the space is known as the inward part of the postcode and is a fixed length of 3 characters. The space between the outward and inward parts of the postcode must always be shown as part of the postcode.

British Forces Post Office (BFPO) postcodes

Where BFPO codes relate to UK locations, providers will need to locate the Royal Mail equivalent for the base.
