This field should be returned where the student is undertaking a sandwich placement that meets the below definitions.
01 Thick sandwich should be returned where the student is undertaking a placement that causes a continuous absence from full-time study of at least one year of the course.
02 Thin sandwich should be returned where the student is undertaking a placement that does not cause a continuous absence from full-time study of at least one year of the course, but the cumulative total of placements undertaken is 30 weeks or longer. This should only be returned once the student reaches this total.
For example, a student undertakes a 10-week placement in their first StudentCourseSession. This field would be returned as 03 Other placement as a placement has been undertaken but it does not meet the definition of a thick or thin sandwich.
In the second StudentCourseSession a 20-week placement is undertaken. This field would be returned as 02 Thin sandwich as the cumulative total of the two placements undertaken is more than 30 weeks.
If the StudentCourseSession contains a placement that does not meet the definitions for 01 or 02, then 03 Other placement should be returned.
Statutory clinical placements, that fit the coverage of the above should not be returned with an off venue activity entity. That is, any clinical placement which is a compulsory element of the students course. It includes, but not exclusive to:
- Social Care
- Midwifery
- Healthcare
- Veterinary
