Description
This field records the student's Scottish Candidate Number
Notes

All UCAS entrants with a permanent home address on entry in Scotland require a Scottish Candidate Number irrespective of whether they are studying in Scotland or elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

A Scottish Candidate Number is not applicable to those entrants with a permanent home address on entry outside Scotland studying at providers in Scotland. UCAS collects the Scottish candidate number for all Scottish new entrants.

Providers in Scotland will need to collect this information for direct entrants with a permanent home address on entry in Scotland. For students entering through UCAS this information will be available from UCAS via the *J transaction.

A Scottish Candidate Number is not required for those students entering postgraduate courses.

If the Scottish Candidate Number is not known, then the code 999999999 'Not available' should be returned in this field.

Reason Required
Allows linkage between HESA records and earlier records of achievement on pre-HE Scottish courses. Such linkages can provide additional information about the flows between school, further education and higher education.
