Notes

Where a Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary student takes time out from their programme to study for qualification or credit that does not count towards their main qualification, with the intention to return to their programme on completion, this is considered intercalation. Intercalation could take place at the same provider or a new provider.

If the student is taking time out from their programme to complete a placement, this is not intercalation. This flag must only be returned for the StudentCourseSession where a student is intercalating from a medical, dentistry or veterinary course.

This flag should be returned for students intercalating to a course at any level.

A student who is intercalating should be associated with the relevant Course they are intercalating to through the StudentCourseSession.COURSEID for the course they are joining, rather than the medical, dentistry or veterinary Course that they were previously associated with.

For guidance regarding returning Engagements for intercalating students, please see the Further guidance on returning Engagements document.
