Notes

This entity collects data on the supervisor(s) of doctoral research students and their unit(s) of assessment.

Providers eligible for REF

For providers eligible to complete the REF, this must be returned for all doctoral research students, even if they only have one supervisor, to record the appropriate Unit of Assessment.

Providers not eligible for REF

For providers not eligible for REF, this must be returned to record where there is a formal collaborative arrangement to provide doctoral research training. A Unit of Assessment is required to be returned for providers eligible to submit to the REF, even if the submitting provider is not eligible to submit to the REF.

Multiple supervisors

Where there is formal collaborative arrangement to provide doctoral research training, this entity records the details.

Where there is concurrent collaboration or joint supervision the SupervisorAllocation.SUPALLPROP, SupervisorAllocation.2021UNITOFASSESSMENT, and SupervisorAllocation.SUPALLHESAID fields should be used to record appropriate details. Only the lead provider should be returning the student's data.

Where there is a sequential collaboration (i.e. the student starts at one provider and reporting responsibilities are later transferred to another provider) the supervisor allocation entity should reflect the supervision during the time at the reporting provider only.
